Redlining in Lansing & East Lansing, MI

Reveal News has done a good investigation on modern redlining from data gathered from the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act. This is what they do report for the Lansing – East Lansing, MI.

Reveal found evidence suggesting discrimination in the LANSING-EAST LANSING, MI metro area. In 2016, black applicants were 3.1 times as likely to be denied a conventional home mortgage as white applicants. There weren’t enough conventional loan applications in this metro area from Latino or Native American applicants to draw a conclusion. For Asian applicants, there were enough applications, but other statistical factors made it difficult to draw a conclusion.
